Teaching
I absolutely love teaching and mentorship. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of sharing music around the world — from Irish universities and masterclasses in Japan to storytelling with children at the Port Fairy Folk Festival in Australia. It inspires me hugely and gives me great hope for the generations to come.
Music Generation
Cork agus Dún Laoghaire, 2026
One of my highlights of 2026 has been working with Music Generation in Cork and Dún Laoghaire. In Cork, I worked with a wonderful group of boys and girls as part of the vibrant Féile Fearann Rí festival. We performed some of my original songs to a packed church on Cork’s northside, creating a joyful and uplifting atmosphere. The festival brought together young traditional musicians from local schools with adult trad and folk musicians and community groups, including Club Ceoil Knocknaheeny and Blarney. Seeing the young musicians share the stage with more experienced players, and witnessing the pride of the local community, was incredibly special. It felt like a true celebration of music, place and the passing of tradition from one generation to the next.
In Dún Laoghaire, I worked with older teenagers to develop and perform their own original material at Volume Records. Their ‘Day Out in the Sun’ festival was a unique intergenerational celebration, bringing young people, musicians, families and the wider community together through music.
I feel very lucky to share what I’ve learned through music while continuing to learn from the next generation. These experiences are genuinely uplifting and give me enormous hope for the future.
St. Paul's Special School
Cork · 2020 – present
I've been teaching weekly music sessions at St. Paul's Special School in Cork under Music Mash Up Cork for some time now — a school for students with moderate, severe and profound general learning disabilities. Our weekly health & wellbeing music sessions are the highlight of my week.
Misneach
Kabin Studio, Cork City · 2022
A huge part of my day-to-day musical life is community music. I loved working with Kabin Studio in Cork City on their Misneach project — all about female empowerment, encouraging young women to be themselves while educating and raising awareness of the many challenges they face.
Lajee Centre
Aida Refuge Camp, Palestine
I was fortunate enough to visit the Lajee Center in the Aida Refugee Camp in Palestine recently. My trip came about because of a very good friend of mine, Ainle Ó Cairealláin, who has opened a community gym called 'Aclaí' in the center. Both him and the Lajee Center are doing trojan work, and I loved sharing the space and music with some of the students in Lajee. The beauty and power of music for me, is the lack of borders - race, language, nor creed doesn't matter, and that is such a special thing. I would encourage anyone reading this to check out the Lajee Center here, and Ainle's work here. They need all the help that they can get.
